AWSI is a national provider of screening services specializing
in drug and alcohol testing and background screens of employees
and applicants. The company was founded in 1990 to provide
drug-testing programs that comply with the Department of Transportation
Drug Testing Regulations affecting the gas and oil industry.
In 1998 AWSI began offering background screening of applicants
as an additional service to its clients that required a background
screen in addition to a negative drug test.
AWSI is an industry leader in drug and alcohol testing. It
provides compliant testing programs to clients regulated by
the Department of Transportation's various modalities including
the Research and Special Projects Administration (gas and
oil pipelines), the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration
(formerly Federal Highway Administration), and the Federal
Transit Authority. Additionally, AWSI manages non-regulated
drug and alcohol prevention programs in the refinery, manufacturing,
construction, distribution, and retail industries in addition
to programs for public organizations. AWSI provides a one-stop
shopping service for its clients providing, Department of
Transportation procedural plans and policies, supervisor training
and employee education, drug and alcohol testing management,
record keeping, and consultation.
AWSI combines human resources, legal and public records searching
expertise in providing clients with fast, accurate and cost-effective
background screening operating under the Fair Credit Reporting
Act (FCRA). As specialists in background screening for applicants,
we meet the needs of Human Resources and Security professionals
by providing timely and accurate reports that highlight important
findings. We do not just provide raw data or computer printouts.
We are recognized as experts in background screens and have
been called to testify as expert witnesses.
AWSI's current management team is highly experienced and
knowledgeable in all aspects of drug and alcohol testing and
background screening. AWSI's clients have depended upon this
expertise to assist them with difficult situations that often
arise in the screening of employee's and/or applicants. AWSI
is also an active member of the Substance Abuse Program Administrators
Association and regularly attends national and regional meetings
of this organization. These meetings provide AWSI an opportunity
to directly interface with regulatory agencies such as the
Department of Transportation (DOT) modalities and state agencies
for advance notice on upcoming changes in the regulations
that may affect AWSI's clients. These sessions also help to
keep AWSI abreast of the latest information and advances in
the profession of drug testing administration.
Background screening articles written by our management have
been published in various newspapers and magazines. Please
refer to our biography section for additional details. A number
of our staff members are nationally recognized as experts
in background screening and have been called upon to testify
as expert witnesses. Our screening services are conducted
under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA).
Additionally, to maintain AWSI's program at the highest possible
standards, AWSI has selected two of the finest national service
providers to assist in the collection, testing, and review
process. The primary laboratory AWSI uses for processing DOT
and company drug tests is Quest/SmithKline Beecham Clinical
Laboratory. AWSI's Medical Review Officer is National Medical
Review Office. This firm is currently the largest Medical
Review Officer service provider in the world and is a highly
professional and reliable organization.
AWSI is an industry leader in providing clients with quick
access to the screening results of employees and applicants
using the secure member area of the AWSI web site. Clients
can access specific results as well as the history of completed
drug and alcohol tests, in addition to the results of background
screens. The status of each search is available on the web
site so clients can track the search as it progresses
AWSI offers the most complete package of employee and applicant
screening services in the industry. We manage the entire screening
process for our clients rather than just processing raw results.
As a result of the expertise of the president and founder
of AWSI, a separate company was formed to perform audits of
companies required to comply with the Department of Transportation
Drug and Alcohol Testing Regulations.
Compliance Specialists Incorporated (CSI) was formed
in 1994. CSI audits clients that perform regulated functions
in the gas and oil industry. They are a recognized leader
in the compliance and verification industry. In 1998 Compliance
Specialists Incorporated was selected as the Northern California
Supplier Council "1997 Supplier of the Year". Although
this company is a separate entity from AWSI, the fact that
they were formed adds to the qualifications of the management
of the organization and their knowledge of the federal drug
testing regulations. Please visit their web site for more
